Landen's Birth Story (08.19.10)

Okay here we go!

At 4:00 am on the 19th I woke up to go to the bathroom. I was having no contractions and nothing was going on at all. Went potty, had some plug come out but nothing indicated that I'd be going into labor 2 hours later....

Woke up at 6:00 am when my phone alarm went off to get Caydence up for school. I woke up feeling sick but I thought it was just heartburn so I took a Tums and turned to my left side, but that didnt last long, so I sat up slighty and leaned into my pillow... than all of a sudden I had a contraction. It hurt worse than any others I had felt previously but I didnt think much of it. 10 minutes later another one hit and it was worse. 5 minutes later another. 3 minutes later another and I felt a slight urge to push. Another came after that and it made me scream. I KNEW at that moment that this was it. He was coming. Matt was trying to move me to the other end of the couch but I told him not to touch me, so he told me to get up and move... I couldnt do that either. So he just grabbed me and moved me. Seconds later when I had a contraction, I felt the urge to push and it was much stronger, so I ripped off my pants while my husband and mother where trying to help me through the pain and my step father was taking care of my girls.
I managed to scare the crap out of Serenity. She was so worried about me. It reminded me of when I had her and I did the same thing to Caydence. Thankfully Caydi knew what was happening and comforted her sister. My step father ended up taking them into the bedroom and turned on the Disney channel to try to calm them.

After about 35 minutes of hard labor and pushing and no crowing baby... I started to worry. My labors never act like this one did. My son was not crowning and I just had a feeling that being at home was NOT a good idea, so I told my family to call the ambulance. About 5-10 minutes later, they arrived and I was very thrilled about that.
They got me into the ambulance and we went off to St Mary Medical Center. While in the ambulance, I had a huge contraction that finally broke my water. And when it busted, it went all over and Landen started to crown. Finally! One of the EMTs said "Holy sh*t!" because he was taken by surprise lol! Then the EMTs, both males, one of which never delivered a baby before, started to encourage me to push. So, I did and I got Landen's head out. But around this time, my body had just had it. I was so tired and felt like I just couldnt do anymore. However, with the encouragement from the EMTs, I managed to push Landen out and Bosten, the EMT who had never delivered a baby before... delivered his first baby! We really made the ambulance team's day...all three men where quite proud He was born in the ambulance, on the 15 freeway between Victorville and Apple Valley at 7:06 am. 6lbs 1oz 18.25"!

Yeah, I was in labor for about a whole hour. That's it!

We got to St Mary's and word had already got out that I was coming and had just delivered in the ambulance. Needless to say, Landen and I were quite the talk. Landen's APGAR was only a 7. He bruised around his lips and chin because he came so fast when I pushed him out, he was kind of an ashy color and didnt really cry at all.
The on-call doctor came in to help me deliver the placenta and stitch me up (I had a huge second degree tear). I asked him to give me some time to get some energy to push it out. So he did. And an hour later he came in. I delivered that... barely... I was so tired and in pain still. Then the doctor left and came back in half an hour later to stitch me up. Well, I told him no way... not without giving me something first. Well, they tried to give me something in my thigh and I told the RN hell no. I didnt know what it was and I didnt want it. I had an IV in for a reason!

Well that pissed the doctor off and he looked at my mom and said "Is she lying to me when she says she isnt on any drugs?!" ...My mom was pissed and so was my husband. It took everything in them not to punch the doctor. My mom's tone changed and she said "NO!" and I, drugged up on Stadol at this point, looked at him and basically told him to f-off. ...He left after that.
All I wanted was for the pain meds to kick in before he touched me down there. I'm sorry but I didnt want to be very awake when that needle went into my "area" to first numb me and than stitch me up! Doctor came back in and did what he needed to do about 45 minutes later. After that, I was left alone for the most part except for a blood transfusion. I had to have 2 bags worth.

We had a 2 day stay at the hospital and I had the roommates from hell... but thankfully we are now home and happy! I love my son so much and his sisters just adore him! He was worth every second I was in pain during my pregnancy and delivery. I feel very blessed to have my family complete.
